Q&A: Reclaim Our Agency

and Prioritize Our Most Precious Resource

Making time to say 'yes' to what truly matters most is something we can all relate to as women. This week we asked SeekHer Scholar Chelsey Reese, MSW, ASW to share her perspective on how we can reclaim our agency and prioritize our most precious resource - time.
Thank you for sharing with us, Chelsey!

Women struggle with having enough time for themselves, often because of the invisible labor they carry that goes unchecked and unrewarded. How can we begin to reclaim our agency and prioritize our most precious resource– time?

Time truly is the most valuable resource. Many women I've talked to feel uncomfortable or guilty about reclaiming their time or taking time for themselves. One of the ways we can confront the challenges of having enough time is by challenging our beliefs on how we view time for ourselves. A gentle reminder that I like to offer to myself and others is that rest and self-care are not selfish or guilty, but actually a crucial part of being able to show up in other areas of our lives and for other people in our lives.

What is a mindset shift you’ve personally experienced or have supported your clients through when it comes to reclaiming agency through valuing and prioritizing time?

I am a big believer that prioritizing our time in ways that help us reclaim agency is one of the greatest investments we can make. I would invite anyone looking to reclaim a sense of agency to think about how you can say no to the next ask for your time, in order to say yes to yourself.
